Your incisions are covered with steri-strips — these will stay on for 2 weeks.
Your incisions are closed but may not be fully healed. There may be small areas that have scabbing, redness, or small openings. Apply Manuka honey (New Zealand Honey Co) to these areas, and cover with non-adherent gauze/dressing.
To healed areas, apply a moisturizing oil or lotion to the incision(s). We recommend Emu Oil (Amazon Pro Emu AEA Certified) due to its anti-inflammatory and collagen-inducing properties, or a natural shea butter + beeswax lotion such as Sweet Bee Magic. Aquaphor also works well.
Your incision is healed without any areas of opening or scabbing.
Apply silicone scar tape to incisions — reapply every 1–2 days as needed or after showering. Use until the scar has faded to your desired liking, typically 3–6 months.
You may invest in a reusable silicone tape (Silagen brand, Biodermis brand), or a less expensive one-time-use silicone tape from Amazon.
This is the earliest you can start laser treatment on scars, but it’s good to wait 3–6 months to allow the scar to stabilize. Common types include fractional CO2 (removes the outer layer of skin to stimulate new collagen production), Fraxel laser (stimulates collagen, less downtime), pulsed dye laser (reduces redness), and Thulium or PICO lasers (for hyperpigmented/dark scars).
Your scar is still fading or has faded. At this time you may undergo scar tattooing and neutralization. We recommend Leanne in Bellevue — Instagram @beautyinkbyleanne.
